American playwright, director, and screenwriter John Patrick Shanley has won numerous accolades for his work in both theater and film. He produced evocative screenplays, one of which won him an Oscar for the 1987 movie Moonstruck. The Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play both went to his play Doubt (2004).
