Poet, novelist, photographer, and visual artist, she was nominated for the il NAACP Image Award in Poetry in 2021. She published five poetry collections, in which, through photo and words, she explores black womanhood, memory, American landscape, and rebirth. In 2011 she wrote the first poetry to be issued in O Magazine. She writes for the New Yorker and several other publications. The title of her debut novel is Promise.
