One of the great new voices of American literature, critic of the “New Yorker” and other prestigious American newspapers, as well as a Star on twitter, Cole was born to Nigerian parents in the US, grew up in Nigeria and now lives in New York. Writer, photographer and art historian, he is the author of two books: the first, Every Day is for the Thief, published in Nigeria in 2007, is a novel-notebook with black and white photographs, named book of the year by the “New York Times” and nominated for the PEN/Open Book Award. The second novel, Open City, written in 2011, narrates with brilliant imaginative style the world through a cosmopolite New York, ranging from Europe to Africa; it was shortlisted for the National Book Critics Circle Award, and Cole won the PEN/Hemingway Award for best first work in 2012 and the New York City Book Award for Fiction. In 2015 he won the Windham Campbell Prize for Fiction.
