Her fourth novel The Emperor’s Children has been one of the most important American literary events in the last few years, and has revealed the refinement of an author, who views as her primary literary model Edith Wharton, and who shows a talent for describing emblematic characters within a society characterized by rigid rules and behavior. The book, already optioned for a cinematographic adaptation by Ron Howard, is a comedy of manners of great psychological finesse, whose three young protagonists, between hopes and frustrations, must face a sparkling but more often than not deceptive world.
